Zea (Amsterdam)
Release of new 7inch by Zea together with Xavier Charles on clarinet. Sounds like children songs, sirens and Ghanian funeral music. The unique Zea style with the wonderful clarinet parts of Xavier Charles.
Xavier Charles (Chalons en Champagne, France)
Birds and park sounds--faint voices, water maybe, calm traffic, softly rumbling engines are treated into held, subdued multiphonics: Xavier Charles always manages to wring something new out of his clarinet. Also known for playing very beautiful with The Ex and Getatchew Mekuria.
Smack Wizards (Glasgow, Schotland)
I saw a fantastic band at Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow last week, named Smack Wizards. What I loved about them was their completely uncompromising approach. They played a set of short instrumentals, guitar and bass overdriven to the max and feeding back but in a really controlled and beautiful way. Young (18ish?) 3 piece with brutal tribal beat female drummer, all sheepish grins and check shirts, watched by 12 friends. I have not seen a band that wrong footed me so much for years-even the alleged underground bands now are sickeningly tame.
Smack Wizards come from the Glasgow DIY music collective ?Winning Sperm Party? in Scotland.
Coma Stereo (Maribor, Slovenia)
Dark blend of live ambiental electronica and guitar driven songs. Takes inspiration from science fiction movies, early Pink Floyd, Sonic Youth and Tangerine Dream. Slavoj Zizek?s favorite backing band.
Oscar Jan Hoogland (Amsterdam)
Improviser, pianist, composer who is working actively in the field of both music and dance improvisation in Amsterdam with an itch to make music that cuts across genres, who does not take himself so seriously, but whose whimsical music has real bite and brainpower.
DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess (Amsterdam)
DJ Marcelle/Another Nice Mess is a resident DJ in amongst others Vienna, Hamburg and Berlin, but tonight the Amsterdam based DJ plays for the first time in a long time in her native country. Later this year she will release her third double vinyl album on the German Klangbad label, now she plays on three turntables (often simultaneously) vinyl from all over the world, from UK Funky to soukous, from cutting edge electronics to cumbia and from raw techno to feminist postpunk. `Marcelle transforms everyone´s idea of how to dance and feel great´ was written about her in New York. Let you take on a journey you couldn´t imagine that it existed!
